George M. Curtis Mansion

420 5th Ave. S

George M. Curtis had this red brick residence built during 1883 in the Queen Anne style. The interior woodwork was made by Curtis Company craftsmen. The home was a showcase for his business and each room featured a different wood. There are more than forty stained glass windows, ornate trim, large fireplaces and carved banisters. The Clinton Women's Club purchased the mansion in 1925. It was announced in the Clinton Advertiser on Wednesday, March 11, 1925, that the "New Fifth Avenue Home of the Woman's Club Will Be Open to Guests Saturday." The Clinton Woman's Club was organized in 1912.
