Are you new to genealogy and family history? Do you have an interest in these but don’t know where to begin? Maybe you’re a seasoned researcher looking for that hard-to-find piece of information? Or perhaps you’re looking to rekindle a project that’s been on hold. Whatever your level of experience, we welcome you to visit the Genealogy Department to break through brick walls, connect with other family history and genealogy researchers, and explore the many resources available in our collections and online.

The Genealogy Department is a designated FamilySearch Center. Patrons have access to digital images not available outside of a family history center or affiliate library. FamilySearch has the largest genealogy collection in the world and they continually add new records.

Patrons looking for items from the Clinton Herald may send a request to staff by email or phone.

Historic Newspapers

The Clinton Public Library Historic Newspaper Project was undertaken in 2014 to digitize the corpus of defunct newspapers from the Lyons and Clinton communities from 1856-1927. Using microfilm currently housed in the Genealogy Department, Advantage Preservation created and currently hosts the fully digitized materials on a searchable website. This project is supported in part by grants from the State Historical Society of Iowa’s Historic Resource Development Program and State Historical Society, Inc. of Iowa.
